Week 2: Shiloh’s Reece earns Player of the Week honors


Shiloh Christian senior quarterback Connor Reece is the ARPreps.com Player of the Week after his performance in Friday’s 44-42 victory at Little Rock Christian.

Reece, a third-year starter, used his arms and his legs to move the chains throughout the game and during the game-winning drive in the final minute, which set up a 25-yard field goal by sophomore Patrick Williams with :24 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Saints improved to 2-0 as Reece piled up 490 of his team’s 628 total yards. He was 26-of-45 passing for 343 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed 24 times for 147 yards.

The two teams combined to run 171 plays for 1,104 yards.

Other Week 2 standouts were Springdale Har-Ber’s Logan Collins, who rushed 21 times for 229 yards (10.9 yards per carry) in a 54-14 win over previously unbeaten Jefferson City, Mo. Har-Ber’s Trey Smith scored four touchdowns total. He rushed for three scores and 136 yards.

Bentonville’s Kam’ron Mays-Hunt caught six passes for 143 yards and a touchdown, including hitting pay dirt on an 80-yard reception to open the Tigers’ 44-34 win against Bixby, Okla. Canaan Ross was 17-of-22 passing for 304 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for the go-ahead touchdown.

Fayetteville’s Taylor Powell accounted for five touchdowns, including two rushing, in a 43-10 win against Bryant. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns.

Springdale’s Layne Hutchins passed and ran for a touchdown in a 27-26 win at Alma. He completed 18 of 23 passes for 266 yards.

Rogers High’s Jeb Brain had another big game, rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in a 26-20 win against Claremore, Okla.

Harrison’s Daniel McCormick had 5 receptions for 231 yards and 3 touchdowns while also snagging an interception in a 39-19 win over Siloam Springs.

Farmington’s Xavier Staten scored three touchdowns. He caught four passes for 86 yards and two scores while also rushing for an 8-yard touchdown in a 43-0 win against Huntsville.
