Thompson ‘Kills’ It For Athlete of the Week honors

The Ole Miss pledge knocked down 111 kills in eight matches over the past week to help her team finish runner-up at the Bentonville Early Bird Tournament.

Thompson, a 6-foot-2 senior outside hitter, was named to the all-tourney team after having double digit kills in all but one match. She posted a 46.1 percent kill percentage and a .349 hitting percentage.

Thompson added 12 aces while only committing three errors in 94 serve attempts for a 91.5 serving percentage. She also has a team-highs in service receptions (82) and digs (46).

In addition,  Thompson was named the Maxpreps/AVCA Player of the Week on Monday.

Here are a look at other top performers from the past week:

Connor Clardy, Springdale Har-Ber — Helped his team to a 7-2 victory over Rogers Heritage with dominating wins — losing only two sets combined — in singles and doubles action on Monday.

Hayden Holtgrewe, Pea Ridge — Had eight receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Also had punt returns of 23 and 24 yards to set up touchdowns as well as several tackles on defense and special teams.

DS Lee, Rogers High
— Led the Mounties’ upset win over four-time defending state golf champion Fayetteville on Monday. Lee shot a 36 to lead four golfers under 40 for a team total of 149 to edge the Bulldogs’ total of 151.

Jakota Sainsbury, Pea Ridge — Completed 14-of-19 for 222 yards and three touchdowns.

Payton Smith, Rogers High — Shot a 38 — eight strokes better than the next closest finisher — to lead the Lady Mounties to a 134-148 victory over Fayetteville on Monday.

Tymber Riley, Bentonville High — Had 21 kills and 18 digs to help her team defeat Siloam Springs 3-1 on Monday.

Drew Winn, Pea Ridge — Rushed for 170 yards — including 119 in the second half — and three touchdowns on 25 carries in a 50-30 victory against Hamburg on Tuesday.

Jordan Witcher, Pea Ridge — Had four catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.
