Fayetteville Purple'Dogs must clean up mistakes with Wildcats up next

In recent weeks, Fayetteville (6-1, 3-1 7A-West) has reeled off strong performances on offense in wins against Bentonville West, Rogers High and Rogers Heritage.

Not only has quarterback Taylor Powell and his slew of receivers continued to make things difficult on opposing defenses, but the Bulldogs' rushing attack led by Terrance Rock has also picked up the pace.

Bentonville High Tigers know game's importance

MaxPreps thought enough of Friday's game between Bentonville and Springdale Har-Ber that it was listed as one of the top 10 games in the nation this week.

Tigers coach Jody Grant, however, already knew how important this game was to his team. The winner moves into sole possession of first place in the 7A-West Conference, and it could give Bentonville (4-1, 2-0) an inside track toward the league title.

"It's a big game as far as conference implications," Grant said. "We're excited about the opportunity to go down to Har-Ber and compete against a quality football team. "This is … Continue Reading ››

Many of Northwest Arkansas' cross country teams were scattered over a number of meets — and states — but many of them had good outings over the weekend.

• Rogers High's boys may have pulled off the biggest feat Saturday morning by winning the Crimson division of the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence, Kan. The Mounties compiled 108 points to 192 for second-place finisher Olathe (Kan.) South.

Senior Diego Contreras led Rogers with his seventh-place finish as he covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 48.20 seconds, while David Salinas took 16th in 17:08.30.

Siloam Springs finished 36th in that division, while … Continue Reading ››

Be sure to check out NWADG reporter Scottie Bordelon's analysis on Springdale's performance. SPRINGDALE — Zak Clark didn’t see the 2010 Shiloh Christian team that won its third consecutive state championship behind quarterback Kiehl Frazier. And despite the Springdale High coach’s Bulldogs beating Shiloh Christian 20-7 during the varsity portion of a benefit game on Tuesday night, Clark had high praise for this year’s version of the Saints. “I wasn’t around for their last state championship run … but it’s the best Shiloh team that I’ve seen,” Clark said. Specifically, Clark was impressed by senior quarterback Connor Reece and senior … Continue Reading ››

Springdale dipped into the junior-high ranks of another Class 7A school district to fill its varsity volleyball coaching opening Monday.

The Lady Bulldogs hired Megan Thompson, a two-time state champion as a player for Fort Smith Southside and the coach of Kimmons Junior High in Fort Smith for the past five years, to fill the void left by Kylie Moad’s resignation in mid-April.

“It’s definitely been a whirlwind, without a doubt,” Thompson said. “I’m very excited. Looking forward to a … Continue Reading ››

Springdale’s girls basketball staff will look drastically different next season.

Lady Bulldogs coach Heather Hunsucker hired Ouachita Baptist assistant Michael Jennings in mid-May to replace Erin Gatling, who wanted to pursue a head-coaching job and accepted the ninth-grade gig at Siloam Springs on Thursday.

Jennings served as an assistant for the last two years at Ouachita, where he was responsible for scouting, game prep, post player development and the Lady Tigers' defense, according to his Ouachita bio.

In addition to Gatling’s departure, both of the programs’ graduate assistants will not return next season. Former Razorback Jhasmin Bowen took a college GA job at … Continue Reading ››
