Springdale Har-Ber Wood pleased with Allen, offense’s efficiency Junior quarterback Grant Allen played his way toward the top of the Har-Ber record books Friday in the Wildcats’ opener at Fort Smith Southside. 'Efficient'Screen Shot 2017-09-06 at 3.57.55 PM was the first word that came to mind for coach Chris Wood when recalling Allen’s 370-yard, six-touchdown effort. Rogers High Coach Mike Loyd wasn't too concerned about the final score in last week's two-quarter scrimmage, but he's worked to correct several mistakes from the 7-3 loss at Russellville.

"We have a young football team and we'll get better," Loyd said. "A safety missed a call and didn't communicate. If they don't have their phones, they don't know how to communicate. It cost us even in a scrimmage.

"But we're … Continue Reading ››

Team chemistry was a major talking point throughout coach Meagan Thompson’s first season at Springdale.

A year later, she feels her Lady Red’Dogs are a stronger team thanks to a year of familiarity and offseason experience.

“I feel like our chemistry is a lot better, and even being with me for a full year,” Thompson said. “I know my players really well, and they know each other better and they have more trust. The chemistry on the court is just better, and last year that’s something we kind of struggled with.”

Another reason for optimism this year is returning production. KeKe Turner, who … Continue Reading ››

Heather Hunsucker and Jeremy Price's young teams hit bumps in the road last week in 7A-West play.

The Lady Red'Dogs dropped their first two games in conference to Bentonville and Van Buren. Springdale led the Lady Tigers by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter, but Lauren Hargus, Krista Clark and Avery Hughes took control in the final five minutes.

Springdale then held Van Buren's star guard Jamilyn Kinney to nine points, but Lani Snowden scored a game-high 16 points in a 58-38 Lady Pointers win Friday.
