SPRINGDALE – Har-Ber displayed a balanced offense, and the defense, well, did what it usually does, holding its fifth opponent of the season to a touchdown or less in a 35-0 rout of Heritage Friday.

Sophomore quarterback Grant Allen played efficiently for a second consecutive week and completed 9-of-11 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Payton Copher, who has split time between quarterback and running back, rushed for a game-high 156 yards and three touchdowns to lead Har-Ber.

Senior receiver Trey Smith also caught a game-high six passes for 117 yards and a score in his final regular season game at … Continue Reading ››

SPRINGDALE – For the first time in school history, Har-Ber was shutout at home. Friday, it was all Fayetteville at Wildcat Stadium in a 28-0 win. The Purple'Dogs defense turned Har-Ber into a one-dimensional football team then took away the pass as well. Safety Andrew Ellis recorded three takeaways himself with a pair of fumble recoveries and an interception. Ellis' first recovery gave Fayetteville a 7-0 lead after Payton Copher mishandled a high snap with Har-Ber backed up in its own end zone thanks to a 44-yard punt and two penalties. Fayetteville limited Har-Ber to just 109 yards rushing in the win … Continue Reading ››

The game we've been waiting for all season is finally here. For the second consecutive season, Springdale Har-Ber will host Fayetteville, the defending 7A state champions. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium. The Purple'Dogs are under new leadership in coach Bill Blankenship, but the program hasn't seemed to miss a beat. The talent is evident, starting with quarterback and Wake Forest commit Taylor Powell and Under Armour All-American Akial Byers, who will soon play along the defensive line for Alabama's Nick Saban. Meanwhile, Har-Ber has controlled the 7A-West to this point. The Wildcats defense, led by defensive coordinator Keith … Continue Reading ››

Fayetteville Purple'Dogs must clean up mistakes with Wildcats up next

In recent weeks, Fayetteville (6-1, 3-1 7A-West) has reeled off strong performances on offense in wins against Bentonville West, Rogers High and Rogers Heritage.

Not only has quarterback Taylor Powell and his slew of receivers continued to make things difficult on opposing defenses, but the Bulldogs' rushing attack led by Terrance Rock has also picked up the pace.

BENTONVILLE — Payton Copher threw for three touchdown passes in the first half, and Springdale Har-Ber's defense turned two Bentonville West turnovers into touchdowns for a 45-0 victory during 7A-West Conference football action at Tiger Stadium.

The win sets the stage for next week's big league battle against Fayetteville. A win could give Har-Ber (6-1, 3-0) a huge step toward a second straight conference title, while a loss to the Bulldogs could lead to a three-way tie with Bentonville High.

Copher threw for a pair of scores on fourth-down plays — a 47-yard touchdown pass to Matt Thomas in the first quarter, … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville West Playoff talk begins to mount

Bentonville West — a team with no seniors — now has two more wins than many people expected the team to have in its inaugural season after a wild 42-40 win last week over Springdale High.

The Wolverines may have something else in the near future: a playoff berth. There are still four games remaining in the regular season, but talk has begun as West (2-4, 2-1) sits above four teams in the 7A-West standings and six teams advance to postseason play.

"I think that's a crazy thing for me to realize," West coach Bryan Pratt said. … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville High Tigers know game's importance

MaxPreps thought enough of Friday's game between Bentonville and Springdale Har-Ber that it was listed as one of the top 10 games in the nation this week.

Tigers coach Jody Grant, however, already knew how important this game was to his team. The winner moves into sole possession of first place in the 7A-West Conference, and it could give Bentonville (4-1, 2-0) an inside track toward the league title.

"It's a big game as far as conference implications," Grant said. "We're excited about the opportunity to go down to Har-Ber and compete against a quality football team. "This is … Continue Reading ››

SPRINGDALE – Springdale Har-Ber moved to 4-1 and 2-0 in 7A-West action Friday night, beating rival Springdale High, 38-7.

The Wildcats used a pair of pick-6s and established the passing game early to jump out to a 38-0 halftime lead. With under one minute to play in the half, Har-Ber kicker Jesus Zizumbo connected on a 51-yard field goal after the ball bounced off the crossbar and through the uprights.

Springdale's Garrett Vaughan added the lone score for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, setting the final score with a three-yard touchdown run.
