Here's the preseason edition of the 7A-West Conference boys basketball power rankings.

Should be a tight race between the top five teams. Wouldn’t be a shock if they all finished with eight to 11 conference wins and the race came down to the wire. Ties are no fun for power rankings, but it’s not hard to envision a logjam of tied teams when it’s all said and done.

But anyway. … These rankings will be updated periodically during the nonconference portion of the schedule and then on a … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville's Malik Monk is a consensus top-10 player nationally in the class of 2016.
The 7A-West will be a deep, competitive league this season, thanks in large part to a wealth of talented perimeter players in the conference.

Here’s a look at some of the best.

1. MALIK MONK

Bentonville — Junior — 6-4

No. 1 is a no-brainer when he’s a consensus top-10 player nationally.

SPRINGDALE — Springdale Har-Ber proved to just be too much for Rogers Heritage to handle Friday night.

The Wildcats offensive line opened holes for backs to run through time and again and also gave quarterback Caleb Daniels plenty of time to throw. The end result was a dominating 35-12 Har-Ber victory.

Junior running back Luke Hannon, who leads the 7A-West Conference in rushing, racked up 111 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns, but he had plenty of help. Sophomore Trey Smith chipped in 91 and junior Sione Nassila added some tough yards inside.

Har-Ber (3-7, 3-4 7A-West) snapped a four-game losing streak … Continue Reading ››
