A first-round bye or not? A playoff game at home or one on the road? The right to play again or season completed? That's the questions that will be answered when Week 10 of the 7A-West Conference games transpire Friday night. Many of the playoff pictures became clearer after Friday's game, and now many teams know what they must do during their regular-season finales. Here's how things shape up for Northwest Arkansas' football teams heading into Friday's games: 7A-West Conference Springdale Har-Ber — Has clinched the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. Bentonville/Fayetteville — The winner of Friday’s game earns the No. 2 seed and … Continue Reading ››

I consider the perfect time to get an early look at how the Arkansas high school football playoff picture is shaping comes after the eighth week has been completed. After spending most of Saturday morning pouring into the possibilities, one thing is for certain: there are still a lot of variables that could take place. Not all of them have the situation like Van Buren, where it's win one certain game or stay home. Since that is the case, I have limited everything to each team's best possible situation and its worst possible situation. Here is what I've come up with so far.  … Continue Reading ››

Another year of high school sports is officially in the books, and there is still three more months before the next one begins. Still, it didn't take long for some people to look beyond next season, especially when the Arkansas Activities Association released the classification numbers for the 2016-18 cycle on April 30. These numbers — consisting of a school's average number of students in grades 9-11 over a three-year span — determine a school's classification for those two school years. The next cycle marks the beginning of Bentonville West and a consolidated Jacksonville-North Pulaski high school, marking some of the noticeable … Continue Reading ››

If everything goes as planned Thursday, there should be some interesting stories to tell when the 7A-West Conference track and field champioAN RUN-SDALE INVITnships take place at the Tiger Athletic Complex in Bentonville. The weather forecast at the moment appears to be fantastic, but hey, this is Arkansas. It can change in a heartbeat. Keep in mind that what I might write about may not even have a chance to transpire. The biggest reason is many athletes who have automatically qualified for a certain event at the Class 7A state meet will … Continue Reading ››

Four questions for four writers talking 7A-West football entering the third week of the season.

1. Finish this sentence: Bentonville's 0-2 start is              ?

Jimmy Carter (Springdale beat writer)Not necessarily a big deal. The defending 7A state champs have struggled out of the gate, but it’s not like it’s against in-state competition. Union (scrimmage), Kansas City Rockhurst and Broken Arrow are likely all better than any Arkansas team. The slow start does … Continue Reading ››

The final scorecard at Centennial Valley Golf Course in Conway made it appear that Bentonville's boys would have to settle for a second-place finish at the Conway Invitational Tournament.

That all changed after a 45-minute discussion, and the Tigers were able to claim the team title during Saturday's tournament. Bentonville had a 320 team score, followed by Conway with 325 and Little Rock Catholic with 326.

The talk centered over a Conway golfer that wrote the wrong score on a certain hole. Bentonville coach Kent Early said that his golfer, Nate Morey, called … Continue Reading ››
