Bentonville West, a team some wrote off this season because it has no seniors on its roster, is 2-1 in 7A-West play after a 42-40 win against Springdale High on Friday.

Sophomore quarterback Will Jarrett is the ARPreps.com Athlete of the Week after completing 21 of 29 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns and also rushing for a touchdown in the first-year program’s second victory. The Wolverines’ only other touchdown was 99-yard interception return by junior Jason Gloeckler.

Many of Northwest Arkansas' cross country teams were scattered over a number of meets — and states — but many of them had good outings over the weekend.

• Rogers High's boys may have pulled off the biggest feat Saturday morning by winning the Crimson division of the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence, Kan. The Mounties compiled 108 points to 192 for second-place finisher Olathe (Kan.) South.

Senior Diego Contreras led Rogers with his seventh-place finish as he covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 48.20 seconds, while David Salinas took 16th in 17:08.30.

Travean Caldwell broke two state records and won a total of five events during the state indoor track meet for Class 1A through 4A schools Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. The Crossett standout went 46 feet, 2.5 inches in the triple jump and blew away the previous state record of 44-4 set by Nashville's Chris Benson in 2001. Caldwell then ran the 400 meters in 49.85 seconds to eclipse the previous state record of 50.35 set by Josh Foster of Heber Springs in 2000.
