With just one week remaining in the regular season, here are how football teams in Northwest Arkansas stand as far as playoff possibilities go.

PEA RIDGE — After two emotional road victories over Gravette and Prairie Grove the last two weeks, Pea Ridge coach Tony Travis was worried the Blackhawks would suffer a Homecoming letdown against Berryville on Friday night.

It didn’t happen as Pea Ridge was clicking on all cylinders against the Bobcats.

Pea Ridge needed just four plays from scrimmage and a blocked punt return for a touchdown for a 21-0 lead 4 minutes, 44 seconds into the game and the Blackhawks never looked back in defeating Berryville 49-2 in a 4A-1 Conference game at Blackhawk Stadium.

Pea Ridge (8-0, 5-0 4A-1) had 345 yards … Continue Reading ››

GRAVETTE — Tony Travis was so sure his Pea Ridge football team had a first down that he burned a first-quarter timeout just to get a measurement, even though he already had his offense lined up for a fourth-down play.

The stretch of the chains revealed Travis was right with the nose of the ball just past the first-down marker. The Blackhawks then reached the end zone five plays later and took a lead they never relinquished en route to a 21-19 victory over Gravette during 4A-1 Conference play Friday at Lion Stadium.

“I wanted that measurement, and it was a first,” … Continue Reading ››

Two weeks into the 4A-1 Conference race and there are three teams that are standing at the top of the league standings.

Prairie Grove, winners of 16 consecutive conference games, rolled over Gravette on Friday to move to 2-0.

Pea Ridge crushed Lincoln 42-14 to remain undefeated at 5-0, and 2-0 in the conference.

And Shiloh Christian registered its second straight mercy-rule win to also move to 2-0.

None of that should surprise anyone. Prairie Grove has ruled this conference for the past three years and the Tigers show no signs of letting the league trophy get away anytime soon.

But Shiloh Christian, which spent … Continue Reading ››

GENTRY — Pea Ridge coach Tony Travis warned his team even though Gentry had not won a game this season, the Pioneers were dangerous.

The Blackhawks took that message to heart after Gentry took a first-quarter lead Friday night.

The Pea Ridge defense held the Pioneers without a first down in the second and third quarters and pulled away for a 30-14 victory to start 4A-1 Conference play on a good note and remain undefeated.

“We talked about it coming over here and even before the game, Gentry’s offense is capable of scoring,” Travis said. “They have some play-making ability. I think our … Continue Reading ››
