Kim Crown signed with Southern Arkansas on Friday.


Kim Crown took a February visit to Crowder Community College, home to one of the top junior college women’s basketball programs in the nation.

The 6-foot-1 Greenland senior post verbally committed to Southern Arkansas the same day.

“I’d already been to Lyon’s campus and to Crowder and I was like, this is nothing like SAU,” Crown said. “So I knew that was where I wanted to go to.”

Greenland track and field standout Cheyenne Lyons signed with the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday.

Lyons, an all-state runner, is in the midst of an impressive senior season after being a key part of Greenland’s 3A state champion 4x800-relay teams the last three years. The team set a state record her sophomore year and then broke it last year. Individually, she finished second in the state in the 800 last year.

Senior Kim Crown scored a game-high 18 points as Greenland kicked off the defense of its Class 3A state championship with a 57-32 mercy rule win over Melbourne on Tuesday in the first round of the state tournament at Jessieville.

It was the 17th win by at least 20 points this season for the Lady Pirates (25-6).

Crown scored eight in the first quarter and helped create open looks for her teammates. The 6-foot-1 post routinely drew double and triple teams from Melbourne (17-8), which deployed a zone.
