Little went right for Springdale Har-Ber Friday, and Fayetteville continued surging as the state tournament approaches, knocking off the conference-leading Wildcats 71-53 to cap the next to last week of conference action.

Har-Ber got 15 points from Ryan Taylor and 14 from Tyler Garrett, but Har-Ber shot just 28 percent (14/50) in the loss. Four Purple'Dogs reached double figures as they won their fourth straight game and clinched a spot in the state tournament.

Har-Ber still sits at 10-2 in league play and holds the tiebreaker over Bentonville. The Wildcats need two wins to claim the league's top seed in the playoffs … Continue Reading ››

Jeremy Price's young Springdale team dropped its fifth straight game Friday, falling to Van Buren, 47-34, behind Jordan West's game-high 18 points.

The Red'Dogs currently sit on the outside looking into the state tournament as the final week of the regular season begins. At 6-18 and 3-9 in league play, Springdale is still only a game behind Bentonville West in the standings with two games left, though. They'll need luck on their side to get in.

The Lady Red'Dogs had another setback at home Friday, losing to Jamilyn Kinney and Van Buren, 52-32. Springdale struggled mightily offensively, especially in the first quarter. … Continue Reading ››

SPRINGDALE – Fayetteville quarterback Taylor Powell drew closer to tying former Purple'Dog Brandon Allen's state mark for touchdown passes in a career (98) Friday night. The Wake Forest commit threw for five scores and ran for another in a 56-7 win over Springdale. Powell, who needs just two touchdown passes to tie Allen, played only the first half, but finished with video game-like numbers: 19/23, 296 yards, 5 TD, INT. He scampered in from 10 yards out late in the first quarter to give Fayetteville a 28-0 lead. He, alongside receiver Barrett Banister, led the Purple'Dog offense. The two connected 10 times … Continue Reading ››

SPRINGDALE – For the first time in school history, Har-Ber was shutout at home. Friday, it was all Fayetteville at Wildcat Stadium in a 28-0 win. The Purple'Dogs defense turned Har-Ber into a one-dimensional football team then took away the pass as well. Safety Andrew Ellis recorded three takeaways himself with a pair of fumble recoveries and an interception. Ellis' first recovery gave Fayetteville a 7-0 lead after Payton Copher mishandled a high snap with Har-Ber backed up in its own end zone thanks to a 44-yard punt and two penalties. Fayetteville limited Har-Ber to just 109 yards rushing in the win … Continue Reading ››

The game we've been waiting for all season is finally here. For the second consecutive season, Springdale Har-Ber will host Fayetteville, the defending 7A state champions. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium. The Purple'Dogs are under new leadership in coach Bill Blankenship, but the program hasn't seemed to miss a beat. The talent is evident, starting with quarterback and Wake Forest commit Taylor Powell and Under Armour All-American Akial Byers, who will soon play along the defensive line for Alabama's Nick Saban. Meanwhile, Har-Ber has controlled the 7A-West to this point. The Wildcats defense, led by defensive coordinator Keith … Continue Reading ››

Fayetteville Purple'Dogs must clean up mistakes with Wildcats up next

In recent weeks, Fayetteville (6-1, 3-1 7A-West) has reeled off strong performances on offense in wins against Bentonville West, Rogers High and Rogers Heritage.

Not only has quarterback Taylor Powell and his slew of receivers continued to make things difficult on opposing defenses, but the Bulldogs' rushing attack led by Terrance Rock has also picked up the pace.

Bentonville High Tigers know game's importance

MaxPreps thought enough of Friday's game between Bentonville and Springdale Har-Ber that it was listed as one of the top 10 games in the nation this week.

Tigers coach Jody Grant, however, already knew how important this game was to his team. The winner moves into sole possession of first place in the 7A-West Conference, and it could give Bentonville (4-1, 2-0) an inside track toward the league title.

"It's a big game as far as conference implications," Grant said. "We're excited about the opportunity to go down to Har-Ber and compete against a quality football team. "This is … Continue Reading ››
