GRAVETTE For its second consecutive five-hour plus bus ride, Gravette’s travel itinerary isn’t changing much. The Lions won 37-27 at Pocahontas last Friday and head to Hamburg this Friday.
They traveled nearly 600 miles round trip to Pocahontas and will trek nearly 700 miles for the round trip to Hamburg.
“It’s about 15 minutes farther, so we’ll leave at 7:45 Friday morning, which about 15 minutes earlier (than last week),” said Gravette coach Bill Harrelson. “We’ll stop at (Arkansas-Monticello) instead of Harding to do (a walk-through). And we’ll get home about 4:30 (a.m.), which is about 15 minutes later than … Continue Reading ››
GREENLAND The Pirates finished 5-5 overall and 3-4 to take the No 5 seed from the 3A-1 Conference, but coach Lee Larkan isn’t pleased with the season as a whole. “We don’t really consider 5-5 and a fifth-place seed (as) a good season,” Larkan said. “I don’t even think a fifth seed should be in the playoffs. We’re not going to say the season was disaster, but in our minds, 5-5 is unacceptable.” Atkins (7-2-1) finished 6-1 to finish second in … Continue Reading ››

Coming off a 44-42 win at 5A Little Rock Christian in Week 2 and a 35-22 win at a 3A Elkins in Week 1, the Saints finally get to play at home and against a fellow 4A opponent.
But that doesn’t mean the final non-conference game will be breeze as Pottsville has averaged nearly nine wins in each of the past six seasons under coach Bryan Rust. The Apaches opened this season with a 35-21 home win against Fountain Lake before losing 21-6 at Class 5A Vilonia this past week.

Following a physical, 21-20 overtime win against Ozark, Gravette coach Bill Harrelson is happy to report no new injuries. However, the Lions will continue to be without receiver/safety Chris Childress, who suffered a knee injury during preseason practices, when they travel to Booneville for another stiff non-conference test at 7 p.m. Friday. “We’re still going to miss Chris Childress, but we did feel fortunate to get out (of Friday’s win) without any injuries,” Harrelson said. Less than 60 hours away from Friday's season opener at Elkins, Shiloh Christian coach Jeff Conaway is uncertain about the status of two injured starters. Senior Chase Bowerman, a third-year starting center, suffered an ankle injury during the Saints’ scrimmage at Springdale High on Aug. 23. Senior receiver Tyler Roth, who caught 40 passes for 886 yards and 9 touchdowns last season, is recovering from a knee injury. “We’re not real sure yet, but we’ve got two more days to figure it out,” Conaway said. “With Chase, nothing was broken, so he’s recovering quickly, but we’re still day-to-day with those injuries.” [caption … Continue Reading ››
