Bentonville West's boys may have hit a low spot last week, and the Wolverines must regroup fast.

West has lost five of its last six games and has gone from having a share of the 7A-West Conference lead to now having to fight for a spot in the Class 7A State tournament following its poorest offensive performance of the season -- a 36-25 loss at Van Buren.

The Wolverines, despite their offensive struggles, were still in the game through three quarters. West entered the fourth quarter with only a 23-21 deficit, but the Wolverines managed just four points over the final … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville West's basketball teams will close out the first half of their first season in 7A-West Conference this week, first with home games Tuesday against Rogers High before their first meetings Friday against Bentonville High in Tiger Arena. Lady Wolverines West earned its first league victory Friday night with a 60-53 decision over Rogers Heritage in a game that turned out to be a foul-fest. The Lady Wolverines (3-14, 1-4) shot a total of 42 free throws, including a 19-of-27 performance from the line in the fourth quarter. Ashaundi Henry made the most of the situation by hitting all 12 of … Continue Reading ››

Scott Bowlin's Wildcats are rolling. Har-Ber, 3-0 in the 7A-West, protected its homefloor against rival Springdale High and Bentonville High last week.

His club then traveled to central Arkansas and came back with an overtime win over Little Rock Christian. Har-Ber's winning streak has now reached seven games as week three of conference play begins.

First-year coach Jaime Green's Lady Wildcats are still in search of their first league win after another tough home loss Friday to Bentonville.

Here is what's going on this week at Springdale Har-Ber:

CENTERTON — A high school basketball team whose most experienced player is the coach's son is a rather common sight to see. Hayden White is no exception this year, but he receives that label by default. That's because the junior guard came over from Gravette with his father Greg, who will coach Bentonville West's boys basketball team in its inaugural year. CENTERTON — Patience has become Randy Richardson's mantra as Bentonville West's girls begin their inaugural season.

Richardson, a long-time assistant at Bentonville High, would love nothing more than to have the high-intensity practices that he grown accustomed to while he was with the Lady Tigers. But with no seniors on this Lady Wolverines and nobody with varsity playing experience, he's having to change his philosophy somewhat as his young players grown into his new system.

BENTONVILLE — Bryan Pratt knew Bentonville West had to strike fast in order to put Cabot on its heels and keep it there.

It worked on the Wolverines' first two drives as Will Jarrett ran 5 yards for one score, then bolted 73 yards for another touchdown in the first quarter.

However, Cabot proved to be too much and went on to end West's season with a 62-34 loss Thursday during first-round Class 7A state playoff action in Tiger Stadium.

Cabot's veteran team found a way to get to Jarrett and wound up with five quarterback sacks, three of them … Continue Reading ››

BENTONVILLE — The thought of a new rivalry may have fueled Bentonville High's football team Friday night, but the chance to earn a share of the 7A-West Conference title again provided even more incentive.

The Tigers staked their claim to a share of the crown in impressive fashion, compiling 525 yards en route to their 48-8 victory over Bentonville West.

"Our kids came ready to play," Bentonville coach Jody Grant said. "The uniqueness of this game is our kids were playing with a lot of emotion and did some things that were uncharacteristic of them.

"We had to calm down a little … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville West coach Bryan Pratt wasn't ready to concede Friday night's game, even with Rogers High less than a yard away from a go-ahead and potential winning score. He didn't have to. The Wolverines, aided by back-to-back penalties, made a last-minute stand and claimed a 26-22 victory Friday at Tiger Stadium. One play after Kobe Anderson stopped Mounties running back Jeb Brain short of the goal line, Rogers was hit with a false start penalty. That was immediately followed by an unsportsmanlike conduct call that backed the ball up to the West 21 with under a minute remaining. Rogers threw an incomplete pass … Continue Reading ››
