This could be the make-or-break week for Bentonville High's boys as far as their place in the 7A-West Conference basketball standings is concerned.

The Tigers (11-9, 7-1) could find themselves anywhere from all alone in first place to down to third place by the end of the week, based on the results of two critical games.

Bentonville returns to action Tuesday night against a Van Buren team that has won six straight since the Pointers suffered a 67-47 loss to the Tigers to open league play last month. Then comes Springdale Har-Ber -- the only team to beat Bentonville in league … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville won't have any problems scouting its two opponents this week as they played each other Friday night.

Bentonville closes out the first half of 7A-West Conference play with a road game Tuesday night against Rogers Heritage, then returns to Tiger Arena for a Friday night showdown with Bentonville West for the first time.

Tigers

Bentonville's boys just missed out on an opportunity to claim a share of the 7A-West lead when Har-Ber edged Fayetteville in overtime Friday night.

So the Tigers will try to keep pace with the Wildcats, and wins over Heritage and West this week would also give Bentonville some separation … Continue Reading ››

BENTONVILLE — There's always a certain amount of change that basketball teams deal with year in and year out because of different players, and Bentonville High girls coach Tom Halbmaier is no different in that matter.

"Our team changed a little bit," Halbmaier said. "Whenever you lose some good senior leadership and bring some youth in, there's always going to be a transitional phase. "In terms of the camaraderie and the chemistry, it's there. We just have to get more reps."

SPRINGDALE – Bentonville struggled to move the ball in the first half against an energized Springdale defense. The Tigers, though, carried a 10-0 lead into the half.

And after the break, it was all Bentonville, scoring 21 in the third to run away from the Red'Dogs and hand them their third consecutive loss. WR Kam'Ron Mays-Hunt led the Tigers with eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown in the third quarter to pull Bentonville's offense out of a funk.

Bentonville West Playoff talk begins to mount

Bentonville West — a team with no seniors — now has two more wins than many people expected the team to have in its inaugural season after a wild 42-40 win last week over Springdale High.

The Wolverines may have something else in the near future: a playoff berth. There are still four games remaining in the regular season, but talk has begun as West (2-4, 2-1) sits above four teams in the 7A-West standings and six teams advance to postseason play.

"I think that's a crazy thing for me to realize," West coach Bryan Pratt said. … Continue Reading ››
