For a second consecutive week, coach Zak Clark's Bulldogs have made enough plays to pull out tough roads wins. Springdale High is 2-0 for the first time since 2013 after Friday's 27-26 win at Alma. Quarterback Layne Hutchins, in just his second career start, was strong, completing 18 of 27 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown to running back Erick Mendez. Hutchins, interception free through two games, was very efficient and spread the wealth to six receivers in the win – five caught two or more passes. Here's how things shape up for Northwest Arkansas' football teams heading into Friday's games: 7A-West Conference Springdale Har-Ber — Has clinched the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. I consider the perfect time to get an early look at how the Arkansas high school football playoff picture is shaping comes after the eighth week has been completed. After spending most of Saturday morning pouring into the possibilities, one thing is for certain: there are still a lot of variables that could take place. Not all of them have the situation like Van Buren, where it's win one certain game or stay home. Since that is the case, I have limited everything to each team's best possible situation and its worst possible situation. Here is what I've come up with so far.  … Continue Reading ››

A pair of schools in the River Valley will be playing on new turf this season.

Alma and Van Buren have installed a new playing surface at their stadiums and have kept up with the progress on Twitter.

The 2015 season will be the Airedale's first on artificial turf, as they were the largest school in the state still playing on grass. Alma brings Arkansas' total to 67 high schools playing on turf.

According to Leland Barclay, a total of nine schools will have new turf this season.

The Pointers began installing their turf Aug. 4.
