THE SKINNY Fresh off a 20-win season under former coach Shohn Doty, first-year coach Scott Johnson feels like his team is in a good place and getting Springdale baseball back to what it used to be. Johnson knows his club’s strong point will be starting pitching with Andrew Roach and Tyler Turner heading the staff. Roach was Springdale’s innings leader last season, going 5-3 in 10 appearances with a 2.37 ERA and 68 strikeouts. Turner went 1-2, but held a 1.62 ERA in 11 outings. Opponents hit just .205 against the duo in 2016. Offensively, Johnson will look to Ryne Whitaker, Ben Roberts, Tanner Sargent and sophomore Ben Roach to carry the load. Johnson believes team chemistry will give Springdale a shot to have a solid season.
