Arkansans pack tornado benefit game

baseball-WITH STORY An overflow crowd helped raise more than $129,000 for tornado relief efforts Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. An announced attendance of 8,014 showed up for an exhibition baseball game between Mayflower and Vilonia at the home of the Double-A Arkansas Travelers. According to KTHV, a total of $129,261 was raised at the game in addition to more than $4,000 donated in gift cards. Jonesboro pitcher throws no-hitter

Jonesboro pitcher Brady Brown threw a no-hitter Tuesday in a 5-0 win over Marion. Brown struck out seven batters in the first game of a doubleheader. It was the second career no-hitter for the senior, who also threw one last season against Mountain Home. Jonesboro later beat Marion 2-1 in the second game of the doubleheader. The Hurricane won the 7A/6A-East championship outright with the sweep and Little Rock Central's doubleheader split with North Little Rock.

Greenlaw to miss spring practice

AN FBH-BENT-FAY 11-9 Fayetteville defensive back Dre Greenlaw won't practice this spring after suffering a broken foot. Greenlaw, who is verbally committed to Arkansas State, told Hawgs Illustrated he suffered the injury and required surgery last month. He expects to be able to play in some of the team's camps this summer. As a junior, Greenlaw recorded 104 tackles and five interceptions for the Bulldogs. He scored touchdowns on a kickoff return, a punt return, an interception and a fumble recovery. Fayetteville is scheduled to play its spring game May 30 at Harmon Field.

West Memphis hires Elmore

Buzz Kick Off Classic -Stuttgart vs CAC West Memphis has hired Billy Elmore from Stuttgart as its new football coach. Elmore is a two-time state champion, winning titles at Class 4A Stuttgart in 2012 and Class 3A Glen Rose in 2007. Elmore has a career record of 81-53 at Stuttgart, Arkadelphia and Glen Rose. Elmore will succeed Lanny Dauksch, who went 116-41-1 and won eight conference championships in 13 seasons with the Blue Devils. Dauksch was hired as the school's athletics director last month.

Monk scores 59 in AAU game

Malik Monk (Bentonville) The legend of Bentonville guard Malik Monk is growing fast. Monk scored 59 points Saturday for the Arkansas Wings. He made 15 of 27 field goal attempts, including 10 of 18 attempts from 3-point range in the Wings' 98-91 loss to All Ohio Red at Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League in Sacramento, Calif. The sophomore also made 19 of 23 free throw attempts and grabbed 9 rebounds while playing 39 minutes. Monk is already considered one of the top recruits nationally. Dauksch resigns at West Memphis

lanny dauksch West Memphis is looking for a new football coach after Lanny Dauksch resigned to become the school's athletics director. Dauksch has been one of the state's most successful coaches the last two decades. He was a combined 179-56-3 and won 13 conference championships during a 19-year career at McGehee and West Memphis. McGehee won state championships in 1998 and 1999 under Dauksch. West Memphis finished state runner-up three straight seasons from 2003-05 and the Blue Devils won eight consecutive conference championships from 2004-11. Harris Leaving Lincoln

Lincoln football coach Brad Harris was named Monday as the defensive coordinator at Class 6A Benton. Harris led Lincoln to its most successful season in program history last fall, posting an 11-2 record as the Wolves advanced to the third round of the Class 4A state playoffs before losing to eventual state champion Booneville. Rogers High softball coach Mike Harper had some simple instructions for Emily Kinney before the start of the bottom of the seventh inning against Rogers Heritage in a 7A/6A-West Conference game Tuesday. “If you get on, we will get you in,” Harper said.
