Who are Arkansas preps’ greatest pros?

PrepPros Did you know eight professional hall of fame players graduated from Arkansas high schools?

It was a difficult task selecting the 10 best professional players who played high school sports in The Natural State. A diverse panel of reporters and spectators came up with the list we will unveil over the course of the next week.

Our list is packed with talented athletes. It was so packed, in fact, the honorable mention list includes:

- Little Rock Parkview's Keith Jackson Sr., a Super Bowl champion and six-time Pro Bowl tight end in the … Continue Reading ››

AN FBH-WEBB-HARB 09-07 The 2013-14 school year hasn't even ended for some students (how are those snow days looking now, right?) and already we are looking ahead to when school and prep football returns.

The start of a new scheduling cycle is always interesting because teams are playing different opponents, especially in nonconference. These games are, for the most part, two-year agreements.

It's interesting the number of teams playing out-of-state opponents in nonconference games this coming season.

For instance:

• Bentonville will play teams from three different states in nonconference. The Tigers will take on Kansas … Continue Reading ››

Some Double Duty Necessary For War Eagles

Rogers Heritage may be the Class 7A school, but War Eagles football coach Perry Escalante said he will still ask a few players to see action on both sides of the football on Friday night in the fall. "It won't be like get a drink and go right back out there," Escalante said. "It will be more like a series here or there. I think it's something we have to do. But it will be several we ask to take snaps on both sides of the ball." Joey Saucier, who will be a senior, did it a year ago, starting at receiver … Continue Reading ››

Har-Ber Soccer At Crossroads

Hiring baseball coaches at Har-Ber and Springdale High aren't the only decisions facing administrators at Springdale. Har-Ber must replace boys soccer coach Nelson Medina, who took over a losing program as a volunteer and showed the Wildcats how to win. Har-Ber got lucky with Medina, a former college and pro player, who had moved to the area after meeting his wife, who is from Prairie Grove. Medina was voted NWA Media Coach of the Year after leading Har-Ber to a 7-0 record in 7A/6A-West Conference play in his first season. He then led Har-Ber into the Class 7A state championship last month, … Continue Reading ››

Who Will Be Farmington’s 5A-West Rival?

I had the opportunity Friday morning to spend a couple of hours in Farmington, where I spoke with athletic director Brad Blew and coaches Mike Adams, Beau Thompson and Brad Johnson about the school's upcoming move to Class 5A status. Farmington has played its final game in the 4A-1 Conference and will be a member of the 5A-West Conference when classes resume in August. One of the dramatic changes Farmington faces will be the lack of a natural rival in the new league, basically because it's so spread out throughout about one-fourth of the state. Farmington's new conference foes range in distance … Continue Reading ››
