Springdale Har-Ber 42, Rogers 7

ROGERS — Trey Smith started at quarterback for Springdale Har-Ber and he also caught three passes in the first half for the Wildcats. But Smith’s biggest contribution Friday night may have come off his foot.

In a scoreless game, the sophomore booted a punt 59 yards to the Rogers High one midway through the second quarter. The Wildcats then forced a three-and-out and they used the swing in field position and the momentum to score two touchdowns in a four-minute span before halftime to start a 42-7 victory over the Mounties in the 7A-West Conference opener at Whitey Smith Stadium.

Shiloh Christian 43, Berryville 14

SPRINGDALE — Matthew Solomon was due some good fortune on a return this season.

Twice earlier in the year he returned two punts for scores, only to look back and see yellow flags laying behind him for penalties that negated the returns.

On Friday night, he gathered Berryville's opening kickoff at his own 15 and zipped down the left sideline. As he raced past the Berryville kicker, he looked back to see if there was any laundry on the field. All the officials flags were still tucked away.

Solomon's 85-yard opening kickoff return was all the spark the Saints needed en route to … Continue Reading ››

Rogers High QB Practicing

Who will take the first snap under center for Rogers High on Friday night will most likely be a game time decision, Rogers coach Shawn Flannigan said. The Mounties host Springdale Har-Ber in the 7A-West Conference opener.

Starting quarterback Cole Evans suffered bruised ribs in last week’s loss to Jefferson City, Mo., but the senior has been practicing this week. Junior Joseph Sultemeier replaced Evans last week and has been getting extra reps at quarterback this week. Sultemeier also starts at receiver for the Mounties.

  • Hootens ranked Springdale ahead of Heritage in each of the first three weeks, but flipped the teams this week and lists Heritage as … Continue Reading ››
