West Memphis is looking for a new football coach after Lanny Dauksch resigned to become the school's athletics director.
Dauksch has been one of the state's most successful coaches the last two decades. He was a combined 179-56-3 and won 13 conference championships during a 19-year career at McGehee and West Memphis.
McGehee won state championships in 1998 and 1999 under Dauksch. West Memphis finished state runner-up three straight seasons from 2003-05 and the Blue Devils won eight consecutive conference championships from 2004-11.

Lincoln football coach Brad Harris was named Monday as the defensive coordinator at Class 6A Benton.
Harris led Lincoln to its most successful season in program history last fall, posting an 11-2 record as the Wolves advanced to the third round of the Class 4A state playoffs before losing to eventual state champion Booneville.
Harris, who also serves as the Lincoln baseball coach, will finish out the baseball season before moving to Benton he said last week.
Harris’ son, Drew, will also make the move to Benton. Last fall Drew Harris … Continue Reading ››
Rogers High softball coach Mike Harper had some simple instructions for Emily Kinney before the start of the bottom of the seventh inning against Rogers Heritage in a 7A/6A-West Conference game Tuesday.
“If you get on, we will get you in,” Harper said.
That proved to be the case.
Kinney opened the seventh with a double to deep center and pinch runner Sydney Duvall stole third before scoring on a perfect bunt by Maddy Prough as the Lady Mounties defeated the Lady War Eagles 3-2 at Veterans Park.
Rogers (8-8, 4-2 7A/6A-West) trailed 2-1 after five innings but scored single runs the final two … Continue Reading ››
Fayetteville took advantage of a late breakdown from Springdale Har-Ber.
The Bulldogs scored four runs without a hit in the top of the seventh inning and defeated Har-Ber 6-1 on Tuesday in 7A/6A-West Conference play at the Tyson Sports Complex. The loss wasted a fine pitching performance by Brady Patrick, a sophomore left-hander who pitched into the seventh inning.
Andy Pagnozzi struck out 13 to improve to 7-0 on the season for Fayetteville.
“Andy struggled early a little bit with his control,” Fayetteville coach Van Arnold said. “He started throwing his curve ball and even when he missed, he came back with it. … Continue Reading ››
Bentonville got offense from up and down its lineup and another solid, near-perfect pitching effort inside the circle from Morgan Vaughan on Tuesday.
What the Lady Tigers didn’t get was much resistance from the opposite dugout, as a five-run first inning appeared to take the wind completely out of Fayetteville’s sails in an 11-0, run-rule win for Bentonville at Lady’Dawg Yard.
“Morgan did a good job tonight and we played good defense behind her for the most part,” Bentonville coach Kent Early said. “We did some things, we were disciplined at the plate and put the ball in play and put some … Continue Reading ››
Wyatt D’Spain made the most of a deflection and scored with more than eight minutes remaining as Bentonville edged Rogers High during 7A/6A-West action Tuesday at Whitey Smith Stadium.
Eric Johnson made a long inbounds throw to Josh Howard, whose kick was deflected off a Rogers defender. The ball then went right to D’Spain, who fired it into the goal for Bentonville (9-0-1, 2-0).
The Tigers return to action Friday with a home match against Rogers Heritage.
Junior Kacey Murphy tossed a one-hitter and struck out 18 to lead Rogers Heritage to a 7-0 win over Siloam Springs in the first game of a 7A/6A-West Conference baseball doubleheader Tuesday night.
The left-hander allowed only a leadoff single in the fourth inning and one walk in the game to improve to 4-1. He also went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.
Colton Wetzler and Logan Easley also added two hits and two RBIs apiece for Heritage.
The War Eagles (13-4, 6-2 7A/6A-West) completed the sweep with a 17-1 win in the nightcap.
Wetzler (4-1) pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win … Continue Reading ››
Strong pitching performances from Taylor Anders and Brad Eversole led Van Buren to 8-1 and 5-0 home wins for a sweep of Springdale High in a 7A/6A-West Conference doubleheader Tuesday.
The Bulldogs (6-14, 1-7) scored their only run of the night thanks to two Van Buren errors in the top of the fifth inning. Anders struck out seven and only allowed four hits and one walk in the complete game win.
Eversole had an RBI double in the first game, then struck out 15 while giving up just three hits and walking three on the mound in the second game as Van … Continue Reading ››
