Fayetteville 7, Fort Smith Southside 0

FORT SMITH — Defense had it’s day at Jim Rowland Stadium, as Fayetteville and Fort Smith Southside went back and forth all night long without hardly giving the other an inch.

One big breakout play on offense and a final defensive stand was all either team needed to get the big edge, and that’s just what the Bulldogs got in pulling out a 7-0 win over the Rebels in 7A-West Conference play.

“That was an old 1975 slobber-knocker,” Fayetteville coach Daryl Patton said. “Two defenses getting after it, not giving up an inch. And boy, we needed it tonight, because both offenses … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville 29, FS Northside 26

BENTONVILLE — Dylan Smith was in search for just a small hole to slide through so he could gain a few yards, and he found much more than that.

Bentonville’s senior running back tore through Fort Smith Northside’s defense Friday night and bolted 46 yards for a touchdown, less than a minute after the Grizzlies had taken a 19-7 lead.

That was just the beginning for the Tigers’ ground attack over the next 16 minutes.

Hekili Keliiliki scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Smith added another one as Bentonville broke out of its four-game winless skid with … Continue Reading ››

Luke Hannon rushed for over 140 yards for Har-Ber.

Red Dog Q&A: Jorge Alba

Springdale junior safety Jorge Alba.
Junior safety Jorge Alba has been a breakout performer in Springdale High’s first four games this fall.

Alba ranks third on the team with 27 tackles and also has a tackle-for-loss, sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery, pass breakup and interception — the only Bulldog player with one of each. He made an impressive, one-handed interception Friday against Rogers Heritage in the first half, then lined up at running back and caught a 50-yard touchdown pass on his only … Continue Reading ››

Week 5 Springdale Football Notes

Springdale coach Shane Patrick.
Some pre-Har-Ber game notes.

  • This seems like a good week to play crosstown rival Springdale Har-Ber (1-3, 0-1) simply because it means Springdale won’t have time to dwell on a tough 40-35 loss to Heritage. Obviously Springdale will be up to play Har-Ber. The Wildcats have won seven straight in the series and is coming off an impressive 42-7 win at Rogers High to open 7A-West play.

  • Springdale safety/receiver Zach Burton (knee) is still day-to-day. He missed the Heritage game after getting hurt returning a kickoff … Continue Reading ››
  • Roundtable: Who Are The 7A-West’s Title Contenders?

Fort Smith Northside middle linebacker Deontre Hardwick and Grizzlies coach Mike Falleur.
Four questions for four writers, talking 7A-West football heading into week five.

    1. Finish this sentence: Springdale Har-Ber's 42-7 blowout win at Rogers High was                    ?

Jimmy Carter (Springdale beat writer) Not too shocking. Let me break it down. Har-Ber beat Owasso, Okla., 21-14 at a preseason scrimmage over in Tulsa. Granted, it was a scrimmage, but Owasso is one of … Continue Reading ››

    Springdale Football By The Numbers

    Springdale sophomore linebacker Kamryn Dickerson.
Springdale dropped to 0-4 with a tough 40-35 home loss to Rogers Heritage in its 7A-West opener Friday.

    Here’s a by-the-numbers look at the Bulldogs.

902 — Passing yards for junior quarterback Fuller Chandler this season, easily first in the 7A-West. He has seven touchdowns and five interceptions, while he is second on the team with 133 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a career-high 91 yards against Heritage. He’s on pace to throw for 2,255 yards in the regular season … Continue Reading ››
