Fayetteville 49, Springdale 21

FAYETTEVILLE — Two plays into the 115th Battle of the Bulldogs, Fayetteville made things look easy against rival Springdale.

The rest of the night wasn’t quite so comfortable for the Purple’Dogs, but Fayetteville never really left anything in doubt in a 49-21 win against Springdale on Friday at Harmon Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Taylor Powell hit running back Luke Rapert on a quick out route for 13 yards on the first play of the game. Powell then went deep for 67 yards to Bruce Armstrong for Fayetteville’s first score with 11 minutes, 36 seconds still left in the first quarter as the Purple’Dogs … Continue Reading ››

Pea Ridge 21, Gravette 19

GRAVETTE — Tony Travis was so sure his Pea Ridge football team had a first down that he burned a first-quarter timeout just to get a measurement, even though he already had his offense lined up for a fourth-down play.

The stretch of the chains revealed Travis was right with the nose of the ball just past the first-down marker. The Blackhawks then reached the end zone five plays later and took a lead they never relinquished en route to a 21-19 victory over Gravette during 4A-1 Conference play Friday at Lion Stadium.

“I wanted that measurement, and it was a first,” … Continue Reading ››

Fort Smith Southside 17, Rogers 14

ROGERS — Rogers High let another 7A-West Conference game slip away Friday night.

The Rebels march 60 yards in eight plays and scored the game winning touchdown with 1:42 left when quarterback Clay Tyler hit Andrew Barley for a four-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the four. The Rebels scored 17 unanswered points after trailing the Mounties 17-14 at halftime.

Fort Smith Northside 46, Rogers Heritage 10

FORT SMITH — Rogers Heritage never got going Friday night at Mayo-Thompson Stadium. Fort Smith Northside made sure of it.

The Grizzlies scored 15 points before the War Eagles ran a play from scrimmage and took advantage of four first-half turnovers en route to a 46-10 blowout victory in 7A-West Conference football.

Northside (5-1, 2-1 7A-West) put this one away quickly, scoring twice in the first two minutes of the game and turning four War Eagle turnovers into 24 points.

After Northside scored on the opening drive, Heritage (3-3, 2-1) fumbled the ball right back to the Grizzlies on the ensuing kickoff.

Week 6 Storylines

Friday night features 106 games across the state, all of which can be found on our Week 6 scoreboard. Scores will be updated periodically throughout the night.

Here are some story lines to keep an eye on during Friday's games.

7A-6A Clashes

The 7A/6A classification has two 7A vs. 6A powerhouse showdowns.

In the central, No. 1 Conway travels to Greenwood. The Bulldogs were blown out by Fort Smith Northside in non-conference play, but bounced back with big wins over Russellville. The Wampus Cats will be very similar to the Grizzlies for Greenwood: a top 7A opponent.

In the east, 7A North … Continue Reading ››

Week 6 Springdale Football Notes

AN FBH-SDALE PRACTICE Some pre-Fayetteville game notes.

  • Friday’s 115th meeting between Springdale and Fayetteville will be featured as part of the Great American Rivalry Series, an initiative by iHigh.com. Former Springdale coach Jarrell Williams is Springdale’s nominee for the American Rivalry Hall of Fame. Springdale will try to snap its five-game losing streak this year and a five-game skid in the series with the Purple’Dogs.

  • Fayetteville may very well be the most talented team in the 7A-West. The Purple’Dogs have several Division I players on their roster, most notably Arkansas tight end commit J. … Continue Reading ››
