On the same day as Arkansas rallied from a 6-0 deficit to defeat Ole Miss 8-7 in the SEC Tournament, Arkansas commit Blaine Knight out-dueled Ole Miss commit Andy Pagnozzi.
Knight, a junior at Bryant High School, was named the 7A state championship game MVP after allowing no runs on only four hits in his six-inning complete game victory over Fayetteville.
He struck out five batters and walked four while dropping his season ERA to 0.43 and improved his record to 11-0. The right-hander was even better in the postseason, giving … Continue Reading ››
Deandre Murray broke a long touchdown run the first time he carried the ball in his first scrimmage at Springdale High two springs ago.Murray wound up rushing for 2,980 yards and scoring 36 touchdowns while establishing himself as one of the top running backs in the state in an electric two-year career for the Bulldogs. But his graduation this spring leaves a void at the position, one that senior CJ Wilson and juniors … Continue Reading ››

It's one of the most enjoyable things we do all year.

Springdale Har-Ber benefited from a makeup game after most teams had finished with conference play.
It was against Bentonville, the team the Wildcats will challenge for the Class 7A state championship Saturday at noon at Razorback Field.
Bentonville (16-0-1) used a late goal by Tolliver Davis to win 1-0 and stay unbeaten. Har-Ber coach Nelson Medina said afterward he hoped his team could use the effort as a springboard to the state tournament.
That's exactly what's happened for the Wildcats, who've reached the state finals as a No. 6 seed from the West.
"We had high expectations coming into the season, but it was … Continue Reading ››
The road to becoming Gatorade's girls soccer player of the year for Arkansas still makes a prominent stop in Bentonville.
Tayler Estrada won that award for three straight years before she graduated last year and took her talents to Kansas. Two other Lady Tigers — April Miller and Kelly O'Connor — earned that honor in previous years.
Now it's McKenzie Dixon's turn to continue that tradition.
Gatorade recognized the 5-foot-7 junior forward as Arkansas' player of the year in a press release Tuesday. Dixon has scored … Continue Reading ››
Lincoln has hired Scott Davenport as its head football coach.
Davenport was previously an assistant coach at Rogers Heritage. He replaces Brad Harris, who left Lincoln last month to accept the defensive coordinator position at Benton.
Lincoln is coming off its best season ever, finishing 11-2 and winning two playoff games before losing in the Class 4A quarterfinals. The Wolves have made the playoffs two of the past three seasons after going 16 years without a winning record.
Davenport played college football at Arkansas.

Fayetteville avoided a monumental upset at the Class 7A state baseball tournament on Saturday, rallying in the bottom of the 7th inning for a 6-5 win over Little Rock Central. The Bulldogs, clear favorites in this year's state tournament, needed a Kyle Pate 2-run home run after giving up a four-run rally to LR Central in the top of the seventh inning to avoid a quarterfinal round disaster.
While Fayetteville (30-3) narrowly escaped and moves onto play Cabot at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the 7A semifinals, the close call shows just how difficult life on the diamond can be with the … Continue Reading ››
I've spent the past couple of days covering the Class 7A State Boys Soccer Tournament at Harmon Stadium in Fayetteville. So far the tournament has produced some great matches and props to the folks at Fayetteville for putting together a well-run tournament.
While FS Northside - the defending 7A champ - is still standing and in my opinion appears to be as good as anyone, overall the power of the 7A-West Conference in boys soccer can't be denied. Springdale Har-Ber, a 6 seed, along with No. 2 seed Springdale High and 7A-West Conference champion Bentonville have all advanced to Saturday's semifinals.

Shiloh Christian football coach Josh Floyd didn't want to say his team's new football helmets are "glittery," but they have a definite amount of bling to them with a metalic look
The Saints for years have worn a matte finish gold helmet. But the new Riddell helmets glisten with silvery glitter in the gold paint, making them very similar to those worn by Notre Dame.
"We wanted a little different look and … Continue Reading ››
