— Principals voted down a proposal on Wednesday that would have sent every Class 7A team to the playoffs in all sports.

The measure was defeated by a 9-8 margin. Class 7A, comprised of the largest high schools in the state, currently has 12 playoff teams. Sixteen schools compete in 7A football, while 17 compete in other sports.

Arkansas' Class 6A principals passed a similar measure two years ago allowing all 16 schools in the classification to compete in the playoffs.

Class 7A principals did pass a measure Wednesday allowing freshmen to be eligible in all sports.
