Marked Tree’s Phillips loses playoff, but team takes title

Bubba speaks plainly. “It feels good,” Marked Tree senior Bubba Phillips said, tipping down the brim of his straw hat. “Just would have felt better if I could have won individual.” Phillips dropped a threeputt bogey while Parkers Chapel senior Sawyer Williams saved par from about 12 feet on a playoff hole to clinch medalist honors at the Class 2A boys golf state championship at Centennial Valley Golf Course in Conway. Phillips, who was individual medalist two years ago, led Marked Tree to a team championship with a 25-over-par 241.
