Monk scores 59 in AAU game

Malik Monk (Bentonville)

The legend of Bentonville guard Malik Monk is growing fast.

Monk scored 59 points Saturday for the Arkansas Wings. He made 15 of 27 field goal attempts, including 10 of 18 attempts from 3-point range in the Wings’ 98-91 loss to All Ohio Red at Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League in Sacramento, Calif.

The sophomore also made 19 of 23 free throw attempts and grabbed 9 rebounds while playing 39 minutes.

Monk is already considered one of the top recruits nationally. He has offers from Kansas, Florida, Baylor and homestate Arkansas.

NWA Media named Monk its newcomer of the year in 2014. He turned heads during his sophomore season with a pair of buzzer-beaters in the same week against conference rivals Springdale and Fayetteville, and a 43-point performance against Siloam Springs in which he made 11 of 14 attempts from 3-point range.
