Lyons’ career night earns Athlete of the Week


Bentonville High quarterback Nathan Lyons had a career night in last week’s 49-21 win against Springdale High.

The senior posted career highs in completions (22), yards (313) and touchdowns (4) while completing more than 75 percent of his pass attempts. In addition, he has yet to throw an interception in 7A-West play to lead the Tigers to a perfect 4-0 league record.

Here’s a look at other top performers from the past week:

LANDON BROWN, SHILOH CHRISTIAN passed for two touchdowns and ran for another in a 38-6 win over Gentry. He was 8-for-14 passing for 137 yards and had four carries for 34 yards.

DARIUS BOWERS, FAYETTEVILLE completed 19 of 22 passes for 165 yards and three touchdowns in the first half of the Purple Bulldogs’ 35-14 win at Rogers Heritage.

CHAD GRAHAM, ELKINS hauled in five receptions for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 49-28 loss against Clinton.

CODY GRAY, FAYETTEVILLE caught seven passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns and also returned a punt 65 yards for a score in Fayetteville’s 35-14 win at Rogers Heritage.

TAYLOR HAISMAN, DECATUR turned a short pass from Cayden Bingham into a 50-yard touchdown reception to prevent a shutout against Johnson County Westside.

ANTHONY JOHNSON, PRAIRIE GROVE had 19 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort at Pea Ridge.

NATHAN LYONS, BENTONVILLE HIGH completed 22 of 29 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns — all season-high performances — in the Tigers’ 49-21 victory over Springdale High.

KAM’RON MAYS-HUNT, BENTONVILLE HIGH caught six passes for 138 yards and a score as the Tigers routed Springdale High.

QUINN MCCLAIN, ELKINS completed 20 of 31 pass attempts for 345 yards and four touchdowns in a losing effort against Clinton.

COLIN MCWHORTER, ROGERS HIGH rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries in a 24-17 win against Van Buren.

EASTON MILLER, BENTONVILLE HIGH accounted for 122 yards and three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) as the Tigers remained unbeaten in 7A-West Conference play.

CONNOR NOLAND, GREENWOOD rushed for two touchdowns and passed for a pair of touchdowns in a 38-13 win at Russellville.

AUSTIN O’BRIEN, GRAVETTE scored five rushing touchdowns in a 37-30 win over Berryville.

JARET RUSS, SHILOH CHRISTIAN had 16 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-6 win over Gentry.

CALEB SALISBURY, VAN BUREN accounted for 190 yards, including 93 yards rushing, and two touchdowns in a 24-17 loss against Rogers High.

TYRESE SMALLWOOD, BENTONVILLE WEST ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns to help the Wolverines stay perfect in 7A-West play with a win at Springdale Har-Ber.

TYRESE SOLOMON, FORT SMITH SOUTHSIDE had seven receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown in a 30-19 loss against Bryant.

TREY WAGGLE, FARMINGTON completed 8 of 14 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown to help the Cardinals snap a two-game losing skid.

DREW WINN, PEA RIDGE rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns to help the Blackhawks remain unbeaten with a 26-21 victory against Prairie Grove.

CALEB WILLIAMS, FARMINGTON rushed 25 times for 203 yards and four touchdowns in a 36-27 victory over Vilonia.

KENDALL YOUNG, BENTONVILLE WEST, had four sacks in a 37-19 win at Springdale Har-Ber.
