Charleston quarterback and Arkansas commit Ty Storey accounted for seven touchdowns – five through the air and two on the ground – and the Tigers rolled to a 47-20 win over Booneville Friday night.
Playing in front of an overflow crowd at Alumni Field, Storey found Dalton Christenberry for a 74-yard touchdown on the first play of the game and Charleston, the No. 1 team in the 3A, never trailed.
It was 14-0 before Booneville, the No. 2 team in the 3A, scored on a 43-yard run by Matt Berry with just over three minutes left in the first quarter.
Charleston pulled ahead 27-14 midway through the second quarter, but the Bearcats responded to pull within a touchdown with two minutes left until halftime. That was plenty of time for Storey, who led Charleston down the field on a touchdown drive capped by an 8-yard pass to Wade Gerlick with 12 seconds left.
Storey completed 10 of 10 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter and ended the half 21-of-25 for 379 yards and five touchdowns to give Charleston a 34-20 halftime advantage.
He added a pair of short touchdown runs in the second half and finished the game with 392 yards on 23-of-27 passing.
It was Charleston’s 24th consecutive win, as the Tigers improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in 4-3A conference play. Booneville dropped to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
