Changes aplenty on Springdale girls staff

Springdale’s girls basketball staff will look drastically different next season.

Lady Bulldogs coach Heather Hunsucker hired Ouachita Baptist assistant Michael Jennings in mid-May to replace Erin Gatling, who wanted to pursue a head-coaching job and accepted the ninth-grade gig at Siloam Springs on Thursday.

Jennings served as an assistant for the last two years at Ouachita, where he was responsible for scouting, game prep, post player development and the Lady Tigers’ defense, according to his Ouachita bio.

In addition to Gatling’s departure, both of the programs’ graduate assistants will not return next season. Former Razorback Jhasmin Bowen took a college GA job at Western Kentucky. Emma Clay accepted a job at Leverett Elemntary in Fayetteville.

Springdale has recently participated in team camps at Rogers and the University of Arkansas as it uses the summer to integrate several key returnees with a dynamic class of rising sophomores, headlined by standouts from George Junior High’s 25-1 season which culminated in a regional championship.
