Bentonville The Tiger enjoyed a banner week, notching a big dual win over Sprngdale Har-Ber on Thursday, then finishing third in the Branson (Mo.) Invitational on Saturday.

Bentonville coach James Rappe said his team bounced back, after a sub-par first round in Branson to come within 4.5 points of second-place Seneca, a defending state champion in Missouri.

"You've got to take into account the level of competition," Rappe said. "We didn't win as many, but that's OK. You've got to have those kind of matches in a season. You've got to be tested. After that first round, we kind of got woke up … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville has been denied the opportunity to win a third consecutive MaxPreps Cup title this year.

Portland (Ore.) Jesuit ended Bentonville's run and claimed this year's claim to the nation's top athletic program. Jesuit finished with 1,122 points, while Bentonville had 958 points.

The MaxPreps Cup uses state championship performances and national rankings to determine the nation's top overall high school sports programs, and not all sports are used to determine this rankings. It is determined by ranking all schools that win a state championship or finish second at the state level.

Points are also weighted, rewarding states that have … Continue Reading ››

“I’ve always wanted to go to a Division I school like LSU, so I had to mature and get my attitude right … Continue Reading ››

The defending champion was down in the fall, but it’s not out yet.

Bentonville, who was unranked in the MaxPreps Cup standings when the fall sports were completed, vaulted itself to the No. 6 spot after the winter sports were finished and is within striking distance of winning that title a third consecutive year. The two-time defending MaxPreps Cup champion finished fall sports with state titles in girls tennis and girls cross country and a state runnerup in boys cross country.

Bentonville, fueled by its state championships in boys and girls swimming and its runnerup finishes in boys basketball and wrestling, has … Continue Reading ››
