Bethany Maddox didn’t join Springdale High’s volleyball team until the first day of school in August, but quickly made an impact for the Lady Bulldogs.

The senior outside hitter ranks third on the team with 132 kills and also has 190 digs. She was named a co-captain shortly after joining the team.

Springdale went 2-2 at the River Valley Tournament in Fort Smith on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs (8-15-2) finished second in their pool, beating Paris and Huntsville and losing to Siloam Springs. They lost to Springdale Har-Ber in the first round of tournament play.

“We only missed 10 serves on the day,” coach Kylie Moad said. “We limited our own mistakes, made changes in the lineup and gave ourselves a better chance to win.”

Bentonville got off on the right foot by cruising to wins over Rogers Heritage and Shiloh Christian at the fifth annual Volley for Cancer scrimmage on Thursday evening at Tiger Arena.

The Lady Tigers, who finished second in Class 7 a year ago, won a tight first set 25-21 against 7A-West Conference foe Heritage, but cruised 25-10 in the second. They broke away from 4A Shiloh Christian early to win 25-13, 25-13.
