CENTERTON — Julie Rowan is ready for school to start so her first Bentonville West volleyball team can finally settle in its new home and have a normal practice session. The last five weeks of preseason workouts have been anything but that for the Lady Wolverines. Screen Shot 2016-08-15 at 12.05.11 AM "We'll be really excited once school starts," Rowan said. "I think we will be ready to settle in a routine. Right now, everything just feels out of sorts. "Nobody is quite sure what to expect from one day to the next. … Continue Reading ››

When Shyrah Schisler took over the Springdale Har-Ber volleyball program, she wanted to institute a toughness about her girls, and a no-excuses type team. She's done just that. Last season was, literally, a banner year for the Lady Wildcats, finishing as the 7A runner-up with a 28-6-1 record. Har-Ber had to leap certain hurdles to get to the state finals, and Schisler couldn't have been more proud of her group. "As far as I know we had not beaten Bentonville for several years before I got here," she said. "Beating them in the semifinals last year was great for us. They're such … Continue Reading ››

Farmington enters its third season in the 5A-West Conference this fall. The Lady Cardinals made the Class 5A volleyball tournament in 2014 and after missing out on the state tournament last year, a veteran Farmington team expects to return to postseason once again in 2015. “We’ve got all seniors now,” Farmington volleyball coach Marshall Ward said. “In 2014 we made the tournament and won a game and then played Nettleton to five games in the best match I’ve ever been a part of. Then last year we missed the tournament. “If we were still in Class 4A, I would expect nothing less … Continue Reading ››

The loss of nine seniors — including six starters — off its first state championship team should mean Shiloh Christian volleyball is rebuilding this season. Unfortunately for the rest of the 4A-Northwest Conference, that isn’t the case. The Lady Saints simply reloaded and once again should be the team to beat in 2016. Third-year coach Nathan Bodenstein led the Lady Saints to a runner-up finish in his first season and followed that up with last year’s Class 4A championship. “We’ve experience a lot of good things, so now the pressure is on,” Bodenstein said. “Expectations are set high, which is not a bad … Continue Reading ››
