Henry Apple is a veteran sports reporter for the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. His primary beat is Bentonville and Bentonville West, as well as topics that include state schools and the Arkansas Activities Association. The Arkansas Activities Association's board of directors denied Helena-West Helena Central's appeal Sunday afternoon to remain a member of the 4A-2 Conference during the 2018-20 reclassification cycle.

The AAA board of directors normally meets to hear such appeals just before the AAA holds its annual meeting of the governing body, which takes place at noon Monday in Little Rock.

Central will now move into the 4A-8 Conference for the next two years. The school wanted to remain in the 4A-2 and have Stuttgart make the move to the 4A-8.

Dalton Johnson, a 16-year-old rising junior at Prairie Grove High School, has won four state titles in bass fishing on junior and high school circuits in Arkansas. He teamed up with Reese Jones of Rogers High to win three state championships this past season and finish 11th at the Bassmaster High School National Championship at Kentuky Lake in June.

Rogers High junior Hannah Martin set the Class 5A-7A state girls indoor high jump record — twice.

During Saturday's meet at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Martin broke the record by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches. She then raised the bar an inch and cleared 5-7 to break the record she had just set.

It broke the previous mark set 20 years ago by Fayetteville's Keely Yarbrough.

For her performance, Martin is the ARPreps.com Athlete of the Week.
