Two Springdale basketball standouts signed with colleges Thursday afternoon.

Forward Ishine McFarlane inked with Allen Community College, choosing the Kansas junior college over several other schools. Guard Devon Young signed with the track program at Kansas City-based Avilla University, where he also plans to continue his basketball career.

McFarlane earned all-conference honors as a senior for Springdale. The 6-foot-5 big averaged a team-best 13.5 points in conference play and had four games of 20-plus points in conference action. Two records were rewritten and four more were broken as the week of state track meets began Monday with the Class 1A meet in Harrison and the Class 2A meet in England.

Jacksonville Lighthouse's Jordan McNair revised his Class 1A state meet record when he ran the boys 100-meter dash in 10.99 seconds, surpassing the 11.08 time he set last year. Meanwhile, Matthew Standridge of Caddo Hills raised the bar on his state record in the boys pole vault when he cleared 15 feet, surpassing the 14-2 mark he set last year.

Some of the 7A-West Conference track and field records could be rewritten during this year's conference meet, which is scheduled for Thursday at Fayetteville's Ramay Junior High.

Weather could play a factor this year as storms are scheduled. The other factor is an athlete who is already an automatic qualifier for the state meet being held out in hopes of allowing a teammate an opportunity to qualify.
