Juniors Caity Townsend and Merscedez Ruiz have become the top tennis players for Springdale High two years after making the team as freshmen.

Ruiz has a 3-3 record in No. 1 singles, while Townsend is 6-0 in No. 2 singles. The duo is 3-2 playing No. 1 doubles together.

They’ve helped Springdale get off to one of its better starts in the last few years, including a win over crosstown rival Springdale Har-Ber in August, the first time the Lady Bulldogs … Continue Reading ››

The Lady Mounties tennis team is in a rebuilding mode after winning the last three Class 7A State Championships. But for the first time in four years, Rogers will not have a Tang on the roster. Tiffany Tang has graduated after winning four 7A titles, two singles and two doubles, and four Overall Championships, two singles and two doubles. Tiffany Tang, who is going to school at Rice but not playing tennis, teamed with her sister, Katherine, for the four doubles titles over the past two seasons. But Katherine, who is a junior, is not playing tennis this year and instead is … Continue Reading ››

I had the opportunity Friday morning to spend a couple of hours in Farmington, where I spoke with athletic director Brad Blew and coaches Mike Adams, Beau Thompson and Brad Johnson about the school's upcoming move to Class 5A status. Farmington has played its final game in the 4A-1 Conference and will be a member of the 5A-West Conference when classes resume in August. One of the dramatic changes Farmington faces will be the lack of a natural rival in the new league, basically because it's so spread out throughout about one-fourth of the state. Farmington's new conference foes range in distance … Continue Reading ››

There are some stipulations — a championship is worth more points for schools in higher classifications, schools in states with higher population get more points than those in lesser populated states, and a sport such as football gets more points than a sport such as tennis. The article, written by MaxPreps … Continue Reading ››
