Here are the schools who have made bids to the Arkansas Activities Association to host state or regional tournaments for the spring and fall 2016 sports seasons. The Arkansas Activities Association board of directors approved and announced its list of mixed conference districts for the 2016-18 reclassification cycle. The mixed conference districts will be utilized for regular-season play in volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball and soccer in hopes of cutting down travel for schools. Schools will return to their respective conferences for postseason tournaments. Schools that wish to change their district assignments will need to send their appeal to the AAA office by Sept. 10. Five schools in the state have appealed their conference and classification assignments for the 2016-18 cycle and will take their appeals before the Arkansas Activities Association's board of directors.

The appeals will be heard Aug. 20 at the AAA office in North Little Rock, beginning at 1 p.m.

Northwest Arkansas had three of the state's five top finishers in the MaxPreps Cup standings for the 2014-15 school year, according to Monday's announcement.

Bentonville, which became the first school in the country to win back-to-back MaxPreps Cup titles, was an overwhelming winner after corrections were made in the point totals. Bentonville finished with 1,202 points after originally being announced with 1,092 points in the original release.

Pulaski Academy was a distant second with 418 points, followed by Fayetteville with 404, Siloam Springs with 388 and Lake Hamilton with 332.

The following is a list of proposals that school representatives will vote on during the Arkansas Activities Association's annual meeting with the governing body, which will be held next month in Little Rock. Proposal No. 1 — If passed, swimming would be split into three classifications: 7A, 6A and remaining schools, effective next season. This proposal has Mountain Home written all over it. It came from Activity District 1-East and claims that Class 6A schools have "no chance at success at the state level whatsoever" because it competes against 7A schools. Four recent Springdale High graduates signed with in-state colleges Wednesday.

Softball standout Maegan Kelley inked with North Arkansas College, while the baseball trio of Trevor Beadle, Austin Solberg and Zach Stith signed with Ecclesia College.

“I think all three kids got significantly better in a short amount of time,” Springdale baseball coach Shohn Doty said. “I saw a ton of growth in a year. I really believe (Ecclesia) coach (Derrion) Hardie did a great job of recognizing these guys aren't what they're going to be even another year from now.”

NOTE: The following is the fourth part of a series focusing on the 2016-18 reclassification cycle and how it will affect schools throughout the state. This will address Class 3A and 4A basketball, baseball and softball, as well as the mixed districts inside those two classes.
