I have used the last four Sunday editions of Northwest Arkansas Newspapers to break down the proposals that school administrators will vote on during the Arkansas Activities Association's annual meeting with the governing body this year. That meeting takes place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. Now on the eve of this meeting, here's what I see about to take shape in our capital city: Proposal No. 1 — Volleyball Events Defined I don't see any reason why this shouldn't pass, and by an overwhelming margin. I had the opportunity Friday morning to spend a couple of hours in Farmington, where I spoke with athletic director Brad Blew and coaches Mike Adams, Beau Thompson and Brad Johnson about the school's upcoming move to Class 5A status. Farmington has played its final game in the 4A-1 Conference and will be a member of the 5A-West Conference when classes resume in August. One of the dramatic changes Farmington faces will be the lack of a natural rival in the new league, basically because it's so spread out throughout about one-fourth of the state. Farmington's new conference foes range in distance … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville's softball players had the right to be a little giddy after Tuesday's big game at the Tiger Athletic Complex. The celebration was on moments after Lady Tigers claimed a 4-2 victory over Van Buren. They had just won the 7A/6A-West Conference championship in a game coach Kent Early called "a heavyweight battle" and earned the league's No. 1 seed in the Class 7A State Tournament.
