The Arkansas Activities Association has announced the classification breakdown of the state's high schools for all sports except football as a result of Proposal No. 9 being passed during the annual meeting of the governing body July 31 in Little Rock.

This will become effective with the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. The number beside each school's name is its average attendance in grades 9-11 over a three-year span (estimated in some instances, such as newer schools), and private schools must play one classification higher.

Conference assignments for each school will be announced at a later date.

The second time around should provide a smoother transition for Bentonville West's golf teams this fall, but it won't come without its share of challenges.

For instance, Wolverines coach Curt Yarrington had to cut players off his boys team before the season started.

"I'm carrying 15 boys," Yarrington said. "That aspect of it, as far as evaluating, has been a little harder. Of course, that's the worst part of coaching is making cuts, no matter what the sport."

West has four of its top players return from the inaugural, and that group is led by Sam O'Brien. The junior took part in last … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville High's girls golfers appeared to be headed toward a rebuilding phase this fall.

The Lady Tigers lost three starters from last year's state runnerup team, including Class 7A state individual champion Kate Robertson and all-state player Maddie Weston. If that wasn't enough, there weren't any girls trying out to fill those voids and left the numbers even smaller.

Lilly Thomas, who won the individual title at the Lady Wildcat Invitational, has been a welcome addition to Bentonville's girls golf team since moving from Heber Springs. Lilly Thomas, who … Continue Reading ››

We strive to spread the love between towns with the Tweets of the Week.

We really do.

But it seems like someone from Pea Ridge nails an awesome tweet more weeks than not. That's the case again this week thanks to a gem by Pea Ridge boys basketball coach Trent Loyd, who also had our first "Tweet of the Week" when we began this feature 10 weeks ago.

This time, Loyd arguably posted the Tweet of the Year. The timing and everything else was perfect as the entire Twitter-verse was enthralled when former Bentonville star Malik Monk scored 47 points for Kentucky … Continue Reading ››
