AN FBH-ALMA-SDALE
Alma quarterback Evan Burris.
SPRINGDALE — Alma senior quarterback Evan Burris threw four touchdown passes and accounted for 266 yards of total offense to lead the Airedales to a 28-10 road win over Springdale High.

Burris ran for a team-high 62 yards on 12 carries, but was even more effective throwing the ball. He completed 16 of 19 passes for 204 yards and the four touchdowns as Alma (2-0) took advantage of a Springdale secondary playing without injured starting free safety Gavin Schmidt (shoulder).

Springdale led in the second quarter … Continue Reading ››

FAYETTEVILLE — The showdown between two of the top teams in Arkansas Class 7A football lived up to its billing. And much like its previous classic battle from two years before, Fayetteville won over North Little Rock again in a similar wild back and forth fashion.

The Bulldogs built a two-touchdown lead late in the first half, then watched as fumbles and miscues allowed North Little Rock to rally for the lead on two seperate occasions in the second half. But Fayetteville stuck to what was working best, leaning on an effective running game to wear … Continue Reading ››

ROGERS — Junior quarterback Joel Brackett took the snap and took a knee on consecutive plays, then celebrated with his teammates as Rogers Heritage held on for a tough 7-6 win over Russellville on Friday night.

The War Eagles (1-1) and coach Perry Escalante were all smiles as they exchanged congratulations near midfield in Gates Stadium. A direct contrast from a week earlier when Escalante and his players were stunned as a late turnover helped Olathe (Kan.) North skate away with a late victory.

However, the Heritage defense came up with stop after stop, holding Russellville (1-1) scoreless in the second half … Continue Reading ››

Quarterback T.J. Green threw four touchdown passes and ran for another as Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst rolled to a 46-22 victory over the Wildcats Friday. It was the second consecutive trip into Missouri for Har-Ber, which lost 42-13 at Webb City to open the season.

Green threw for 366 yards after Har-Ber gave up over 400 yards on the ground last week against the Cardinals. Webb City began the week ranked No. 1 in Missouri’s Class 4A while Rockhurst is No. 5 in Class 6A.

Kyle Freeman rushed for 166 yards including a 70-yard touchdown run, and the Shiloh Christian defense came up with two huge fourth quarter sacks to hand coach Jeff Conaway his first win as the Saints head coach.

Shiloh Christian (1-1) led 12-0 before FBA scored a fourth quarter touchdown and recovered an on-side kick. But the Saints' Colton Parten came up with two huge sacks to thwart the Lions' scoring chances.

CLAREMORE, Okla. — A quarterback switch gave Claremore, Okla. a much needed lift Friday night.

Aaron McCollough took control of the offense to start the second and the sophomore guided the Zebras to two quick second half touchdowns as Claremore defeated Rogers High 17-14 in a nonconference game.

McCollough was 2-for-3 passing for 79 yards an one touchdown as the Zebras scored two touchdowns in a span of just over two minutes in the third quarter. Both completions were to senior Dustin Basks, who started the game at quarterback but moved to receiver to start the second half.

“McCollough is just young and … Continue Reading ››

AN FBH-TEAM CAMP
NWA Media -- Farmington junior Justice Hobbs scored 4 touchdowns against Prairie Grove last week.
Everyone is buzzing about Bryan Grigsby of Rogers High this week, and rightfully so after his record-setting 32-446, 5TD performance against Siloam Springs in the season opener last Friday night at Whitey Smith Stadium.

But Grigsby was not the lone standout individual performer by a Northwest Arkansas athlete last week. There were many shining moments as the 2014 season got underway with games starting Monday (Lincoln) and ending at almost midnight Saturday (Springdale … Continue Reading ››
