Junior Chasidee Owens scored a career-high 19 points to lead Springdale High to an impressive 60-29 victory over Mustang, Okla., in the third-place game of the Durant (Okla.) Lion Classic on Saturday.

Springdale (4-1) bounced back strong from a 50-49 loss at the buzzer to Westmoore, Okla., in the semifinals Friday. The Lady Bulldogs led 32-11 at halftime and cruised to the win.

Owens led the way, earning all-tournament honors for her performance. Senior Ja’Vonda Daniels knocked down three 3-pointers and scored nine points for the Lady Bulldogs, while sophomore Haley Dougan added eight points.

Westmoore, Okla., hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer to beat Springdale High 50-49 in the Durant (Okla.) Lion Classic semifinals Friday.

The loss was the first for the year for the Lady Bulldogs (3-1). Ja'Vonda Daniels scored a season-high 19 points and Kierra Lang added 17 in the defeat.

Springdale rallied from a 20-12 halftime deficit to take the lead late before the game-winner. Sydney Chastain scored a game-high 21 for Westmoore.

Monday’s opening night of the 2014 Citizens Bank Classic at Van Buren High School was special for the Loyd family.

Randy Loyd, Van Buren’s longtime boys’ coach and athletic director, invited Pea Ridge this year to the tournament, coached by his son, Trent.
