BENTONVILLE — Canaan Ross threw four touchdown passes, and Kam’ron Mays-Hunt caught three as Bentonville High celebrated Homecoming with a 49-7 rout of Rogers High in 7A-West Conference action Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
Jacob Clark’s 51-yard run on the first play set the tone for a fast start as Bentonville (6-2, 4-1) scored on its first five possessions and bolted to a 35-0 halftime lead, accumulating 398 yards total offense in the first half. Ross and Mays-Hunt capped the Tigers’ opening drive with a 4-yard touchdown pass, then the two connected for a 75-yard scoring strike as one of three Bentonville touchdowns in the second quarter.
Clark had a 2-yard touchdown run, and Ross hit Clay Barganier with a 6-yard touchdown pass to start the second quarter. Mays-Hunt also had a 42-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Lyons as he sidestepped a Rogers defender and bolted for the end zone.
Bentonville’s defense held Rogers to 168 yards total offense, and the Mounties (5-3, 2-3) didn’t score until Colin McWhorter’s 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Ross finished with 244 yards on 11 of 13 passing, while Mays-Hunt had 160 yards on six receptions.
