Bentonville West Girls 2017 Season Preview

COACH Zach Nidiffer

LAST YEAR’S RECORD This is the Lady Wolverines’ inaugural season.

KEY PLAYERS F/MF Alissa Carlson (Jr.); F/MF Rachel Higgins (Soph.)

TOP NEWCOMERS D Emma Ferrigni (Fr.)

THE SKINNY Nidiffer was chosen to guide West’s girls after winning a state championship last year at Claremore, Okla., and said the transition to starting a new program has been amazing.
“It’s a rare opportunity to start a brand new program, a new school,” he said. “We started out kind of rough with girls from all over the place but we’ve been able to practice in offseason since August, and it’s starting to come together.”
Nidiffer said he likes an aggressive style of play and likes to use players that can contribute on both sides of the ball. He inherited a good player to build upon in Carlson, who was Bentonville’s leading scorer last year and has already made a good first impression with four goals in the season opener against Green Forest. Higgins joined the team after moving in from out of state, while Ferrigni is a transfer from Ohio and will lead the defense.
Nidiffer says the Lady Wolverines’ goals for this season are simple. He wants the team to finish with a winning record and reach the Class 7A state tournament in its first year.

KEY DATES March 13 — 7A-West Conference opener at home vs. Van Buren; April 11 — travels to Bentonville High for its first meeting against the Lady Tigers.
