Bentonville West 2017 Season Preview

COACH Chip Durham (first year)

LAST YEAR’S RECORD This is the Wolverines’ first season.

KEY PLAYERS CF Joey Aden (Soph.); SS Will Jarrett (Soph.); LHP/1B Jaron Jenkins (Jr.); LHP/OF Jason Gloeckler (Jr.); 2B/RHP Dakota McDonald (Soph.); LHP Hunter Mayes (Soph.)

THE SKINNY Durham returns to coaching baseball for the first time since 2010, when he resigned his position as head coach at Nicholls State after five seasons. He is also a former coach at Crowder College, but this is the first time he will coach at the high school level. … He inherits a West team with no seniors and no players with a single inning of varsity playing experience. … Because the Wolverines are so young, Durham said he may be starting four sophomores or four or five freshmen at times this spring. … Some of the Wolverines’ best pitchers will also be position players, which means Durham will have to tinker with lineups from time to time.

IMPORTANT GAMES March 1 — Inaugural season opener at home vs. Siloam Springs; March 13 — first 7A-West Conference game vs. Van Buren; May 1-2 — games against Bentonville High.
