THE SKINNY Cantrell comes to West after a 19-year tenure at North Little Rock, which includes seven years as the school’s softball coach. Under his guidance, the Lady Charging Wildcats won three straight state championships before he went into an administrative role last year. … Crowson saw pitching experience as a freshman at Bentonville two seasons ago and is one of five players quickly making the transition from basketball to softball. … Dodd was mainly used as a courtesy runner by the Lady Tigers next year and Roberson propelled Bentonville into the state championship game with her pinch-hit two-run home run in the semifinal game against Rogers. … Cantrell said he will form his style of play around the players he has. … West’s players, according to him, might have a little more power than the teams he had at North Little Rock, but don’t have as much speed. … Cantrell said he wants to stress softball fundamentals, and the team motto is “ITLT,” meaning “It’s the little things.” … When forming the schedule, Cantrell said he wanted his team to face good quality pitching.
