Athlete of the Week: Fayetteville’s Jasmine Franklin

Fayetteville High’s Jasmine Franklin‘s dominating double-double vaulted the Lady Bulldogs into the Class 7A State Championship.

The 6-foot-1 junior forward was 5-of-7 from the floor to finished with 13 points in a 49-40 win over Little Rock Central. She also had a whopping 19 rebounds, including 11 of team’s 22 offensive boards, in only 20 minutes of action. In the quarterfinals, Franklin had 10 points.

For her effort, Franklin is the Athlete of the Week.

Paige Devecsery, Farmington, junior right-hander pitched a complete-game one-hitter and hit a grand slam to power the Lady Cardinals to a 12-0 victory over Siloam Springs on Monday.

Sasha Goforth, Fayetteville, averaged 15 points per game to lead the Lady Bulldogs to wins over Conway and Little Rock Central in the state tournament.

Joey Hall, Pea Ridge, senior guard led all scorers with 20 points in a 63-54 win over Pottsville in the 4A semifinals.

Hunter Mayes, Bentonville West, threw a two-hit shutout against Gravette, a first in the program’s short history.

Kaylin Melvin, Rogers High, hit a grand slam and and also struck out the side after taking over as a relief pitcher in the sixth inning of a 11-1 win over Conway.

Hannah Lueders
, Roegrs High, won the 100- and 200-meter runs and also anchored the 4×100 relay team to a first-place finish at the Y-Timing Invitational in Fayetteville on March 2.
