LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Fayetteville and Springdale Har-Ber had powerful offenses throughout the season. But in their Class 7A state championship showdown, defense stole the show as the teams combined to force nine turnovers. And it was the Bulldogs getting the most of the defensive day, getting five Fuller Chandler interceptions and adding another fumble recovery on a bad snap in a 28-7 victory at War Memorial Stadium.
Senior safety Joey Savin set a state finals record with three interceptions and Fayetteville set a finals record forcing six, as the Purple’Dogs wore down Har-Ber and added a late Javontae Smith 31-yard touchdown run to pull away for their fourth state title in school history, their third in the last five seasons.
