Greg Tibbitt was named recently as Shiloh Christian’s defensive coordinator on first-year coach Jeff Conaway’s staff. Wednesday the Saints held their first fall practice of the season.
Tibbitt coached with Conaway at Greene County Tech before taking a head coaching position at a small school in Louisiana.
1st Down — What defense will you line up in this season?
“We’re going to line up in a 3-3 odd stack defense. We’ll have 3 down linemen, 3 linebackers and 2 safeties over the top.
2nd Down — Who have been some of the players who have stood out so far defensively?
“I’m going to be a little biased and say the linebackers. Our three linebackers — Jacob Plunkett, Austin Connolly and Lakin Hall — have played really well, picked up the system really well. Lakin is playing our mike linebacker, kind of our quarterback on defense and doing a really good job right now. ”
3rd Down — Where were you coaching last season?
“I was the head coach down at the Glenbrook School in Minden, La. That’s a small 2A school down in north Louisiana. I came here with Coach Conaway. He hired me as the defensive coordinator at Greene County Tech. So we moved from Louisiana, to northeast Arkansas, back to Louisiana and now to Northwest Arkansas.”
4th Down — How difficult is it for players who play a no-huddle offense, to also play on defense as a two-way player?
“It’s very difficult, but our goal is to try and get as many guys on the field as we can. It’s our job to coach up those second guys and get them ready. That’s our goal is to have 22 starters so that it doesn’t put us in that bind. I know that’s not always the case, but that’s our goal and we’re trying to do that the best we can.”
