FAYETTEVILLE – Armorel needed only six innings to claim the Class 1A baseball state championship.
Nash Winters’ RBI single with two outs in the sixth gave Armorel a 10-0 run-rule win over Taylor Friday afternoon at Baum Stadium.
The hit capped a 4-for-4, 2-RBI game for Winters, but Ashton Kennedy was named the game’s MVP. Kennedy gave up two hits and faced 19 batters, one over the minimum, while striking out four.
Andrew Lannon’s two-out RBI single in the first got things going for Armorel, who added three in the second, three in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Armorel’s only scoreless inning came in the fourth, when the Tigers stranded runners on the corners.
The three-run third inning was aided by an RBI single by Winters that turned into a three-run Little-League home run thanks to three errors on the play.
Taylor committed six errors during the game.
The two teams have combined to win seven of the last 12 Class 1A state titles.
